Welcome to Dominion. My name is Alice Tracey, and I'm a native of Arlington, Massachusetts. I'm a soon-to-be-graduated senior (or soon-to-be-virtually-graduated; thanks, pandemic) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, studying Biomedical Engineering with minors in Electrical Engineering and Writing.

Over the course of my time here at U of M, I've relied on my Minor in Writing to get me out of the navel-gazing, career-focused Engineering bubble. I need a structured space in which I can reflect on the world around me and my role in it. Dominion represents the culmination of my work as a Minor in Writing student. If there's anything I've learned over the past four years, it's that good writing stems from discomfort  a question, a suspicion, a gut feeling  and Dominion exemplifies this process of starting with an uncomfortable hunch and seeing where it goes.

Interestingly, during this time of global crisis, Dominion has felt increasingly relevant, even if it's not directly related to Covid-19. The pandemic has made me realize how quickly and drastically people's paradigms of normalcy can shift. Perhaps challenging normalcy is the goal of this project. I want to get people questioning not just the symptoms, but the fundamental institutions at the root of a deep-seated and centuries-old problem.
